She couldn't handle Kerouac. Beat-era reminiscing. I have to say I'm sick of the Beats; Kerouac was a good storyteller, not much more. Plus, his claims of writing "first-thought-best-thought" style (he said he wrote "On the Road" in one sitting on a bennie jag) have been widely debunked. This is fun to read, though, and short. Nobody talks much about the women of the Beat movement...
