Shit, John Gilmore was great. He pretty much clowns Jordan on this album (I'm listening to it now on MP3). The dude played with Sun Ra's Arkestra for 30 years & recorded very few dates away from Sunny. This is one of them, the first, actually. Story: Gilmore's playing with a trio at a club in NY. An audience member leaps up after a particularly frothy Gilmore solo and shouts "That's it! That's it! You've got the concept!"
That audience member was John Coltrane.
