Very few contemporary lyricists interest me at all. There are a few in the rap game (Lateef & Lyrics Born, Fat Lip) and a couple of weirdo outsiders (Suzanne Langille, Diamanda Galas), but almost nobody that anybody's heard of. Will Oldham, formerly of Palace(Brothers, Music, etc) and now known as "Bonnie" Prince Billy, is one I like. This article discusses his excellent lyrics. It's a bit grovelling, but the analysis ain't half bad, and the reprinted lyrics are real beauty. Clear thinker, that Oldham boy.
