Grand is the acknowledged world leader in artificial intelligence; he has been cited as one of the 18 scientists most likely to revolutionise our lives in the 21st century and has already achieved the near impossible of uniting the irreconcilable Steven Rose and Richard Dawkins. Rose has declared Grand a man "he has to meet", while Dawkins has described his work as "the most impressive example of artificial life I have seen".
