You probably know that record companies are assholes, and that the SDMI Hacking Challenge was motivated by PR at least as much as by genuine research interest. You probably know that Princeton Professor Edward Felton hacked most of SDMI already (with Rice University and Xerox PARC assistance). You probably know that Felton can't publish his findings for fear of legal trouble. But did you know that some French guys also hacked SDMI? They published their results on the Web...once again, I tip my hat to the French.
