I went to the percussion store last week, and the guy behind the counter was a friendly foreign-born man with a very slight accent that I couldn't quite place. He said there would be a sale soon, so he gave me the "sale" prices. It's a good percussion store: nice bells, rattles, great stuff everywhere. I just bought a couple bells: a hand-bell and a string of little clanking bells. I really just wanted something new, and didn't have enough shekels for much more than that - I was going to Wilson's house to play. They guy at the counter said to me that only good people play bells, that bell-playing draws some kind of line in the sand, even using the example of Puff Daddy saying something to the effect of "if Puffy played the bells more often, he wouldn't have these legal problems and gun problems."
He may be right, although I'm not sure how "good" I am and I play bells on an alarmingly regular basis. Maybe I should return J-Lo's phone calls after all...
