Vespers, by Louise Gluck. I took classes with her in college & was astonished when I read her work & realized what a fine writer she is.
And Alturism, Poetry, Advertising, written by ad-man and fellow Williams alum (dig the "through no fault of his own" line). He states clearly that marketing is "plundering," and that philanthropy helps ease his troubled spirit, but when one plunders everyone, as advertising does by nature, then practices philanthropy [thereby assisting only the most needy], isn't there still a negative ethical figure attached?. I found it this on RageBoy.
