Peter Kowald has died. I'm listening right now to his Duos: Europa|America|Japan album. He was one of the world's greatest bass players, a man of broad and touching taste and influence. The new-to-me and very nice Dutch zine R:IP Bulletin has an interview with him.
I've finished The Burn and it was terrific. I'm now re-reading The Sot-Weed Factor, by John Barth. I read it in 8th grade, my dad passed it off to me, and re-reading it now it is clearly the best example ever of a book I read too young and failed to understand. I'd read the Dune books the year before, and Kundera, but nothing escaped me like the Barth.
